In 1978 Kyu Hwang, a Korean immigrant who came to the United States with his parents and sister. In 1979 he opened the first Zion Market store in San Diego, CA and was the first Korean grocery store in the region.
The concept that differentiates Zion Market from other Asian supermarkets is the quality of fresh products at the best price. It also offers Japanese food items.
Over time, the small store was expanded, due to the success of sales and customers. In 2002 Zion Market moved to Mercury Street, in a much larger building.
In the following years the chain expanded to other cities in California and Koreatown (downtown Los Angeles).
Today, Zion Market San Diego, Inc. it operates 7 locations in the United States. Its headquarters are located in San Diego.
