LONGS DRUGS History
The first pharmacy (Longs Self-Service Drugs) was founded by brothers Joseph and Thomas Long in 1938 in Oakland, California, U.S.A. The firm expanded throughout the West Coast.
In 1954 he opened the first Longs Drugs pharmacy in Hawaii. By the 1970s there were more than 50 stores in the United States, and new pharmacies were opened in Oregon, Nevada and Alaska.

In the early 1980s, Longs Drugs had a chain of more than 160 pharmacies. In 1992, Longs Drugs bought the California-based Bill’s Drugs pharmacy chain and in the following years would buy many more.
In 2008, CVS Pharmacy (leader in the USA) bought the chain of more than 500 Longs Drugs stores. Since 2005, CVS has been renaming Longs Drugs pharmacies (except in Hawaii).
Today, Longs Drugs has locations on the main islands of Hawaii and its headquarters are located in Rhode Island, NY (the headquarters of CVS).
